Nine Model Jars

Artist-in-Residency
During this four week residency at I-Park, I explored the potential of the study model as a design apparatus. As architects’ design tools are slowly, but surely, becoming digitalized, the scale model might be the last remaining tangible design medium. In the interest of producing work directly tied to the artist-residency, the following nine study models were fabricated out of found materials from the I-Park grounds. Operating as a true ‘bricoleur’, the scale models were made from discarded trash, natural elements or parts of decommissioned art installations. With the aid of photogrammetry, the miniatures were also three-dimensionally scanned and digitalized. Representing nine imaginary garden follies, the models are now permanently encased in custom jars and act as specimen for future opportunities and ideas.
